2005 SHENANGO VALLEY MODIFIED SOFTBALL LEAGUE PLAYOFFS

The 2005 Shenango Valley Modified Softball League playoffs begin Sunday, July 31. Unlike previous years which involved intra-divisional play, the 2005 playoffs will feature a modified format. Because of the six-team setup, the league will use a double-elimination format to determine the final two teams that will play in the best-of-five championship series. The format is similar to that used in the NCAA College World Series with some adaptation.

Each team is guaranteed two playoff games, just as in the intra-divisional setup. The top two seeds, which both earn quarterfinal-round byes, need to win just two games to reach the finals -- the same as before.

The best-of-five finals are scheduled to begin Monday, August 8.
