MERCER BOWL 12, CHICCARINO'S 2
SHENANGO TOWNSHIP -- Visiting Mercer Bowl broke open a 2-2 tie by scoring 10 combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings against Chiccarino's en route to a 12-2 win Thursday night at COG.
Craig Songer roped a two-run double during Mercer Bowl's four-run fifth inning to help push the lead to 6-2. He also added a run-scoring single in the sixth inning while Tim Murray and Justin Songer helped ignite a six-run sixth inning with consecutive doubles.
Craig Songer went 4 for 4 while Eric Bombeck collected three hits and scored three runs. Murray and Justin Songer also singled as part of two-hit games. Chad McCombs singled twice and scored a pair of runs. Bryan Bailey tripled and Jim Kopan doubled.
Bailey earned the pitching win after allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings. Murray pitched in relief and allowed one hit over 1 1/3 innings.
Darren Gensler doubled and singled for Chiccarino's (2-3). Ryan Briggs took the pitching setback after allowing 10 earned runs in seven innings.
