SHENANGO TOWNSHIP -- Behind a three-hit shutout from pitcher Jason Evakich and Nate Banick hitting for the cycle, Sharon VFW improved to 5-0 on the season Wednesday night with a 9-0 road win over Chiccarino's at COG.
Banick went 4 for 4 with three runs batted in, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Corey Augustine homered and singled while driving in three runs for VFW. Also, Chad Clark, Eric King, Todd Rearick and Travis Zuschlag all collected two hits each.
Evakich allowed just three hits and struck out one over seven innings. It is his second three-hitter of the season.
For Chiccarino's (2-2), Adam Felton doubled and Darren Gensler laced a pair of singles. Ryan Briggs took the pitching setback. He struck out one and walked two in seven innings.
